Lakmal Embuldeniya is a distinguished figure in the Information and Communication Technology sector, recognized for his nearly two decades of leadership in digital transformation, information security, and project delivery. With a career that bridges the private and public sectors, Lakmal has established himself as an expert in “Digital Trust,” actively advocating for the development of the global ICT industry through various high level strategic roles and voluntary engagements.
Lakmal’s technical foundation was laid during his secondary education at Royal College, Colombo, where he was a Senior Steward and Captain of the Scrabble Team. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Computer Systems and Networking from Curtin University, Australia, and a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology with Second Class Special Honors from the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT). His commitment to professional rigor is further evidenced by his status as a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and a certified Lead and Internal Auditor for ISO 27001:2013 standards.
Lakmal’s career began with technical roles at Sri Lanka Telecom and Roomsnet International, where he honed his skills in systems engineering and customer support. His tenure at Creative Software marked a significant period of growth, starting as a Technical Support Engineer in 2009, he climbed the ranks to become the Lead Systems Engineer by 2013. In this capacity, he managed infrastructure for internal and external data centers and led knowledge transfer operations for major international clients like Microsoft.
Transitioning to the public sector, Lakmal served as a Project Manager at the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) from 2016 to 2018. During this influential period, he spearheaded national scale initiatives, including the National Data Center Initiative and the Public Wi Fi Initiative, which deployed over 1,000 hotspots island wide. He also contributed to high profile projects such as the process automation for the Prime Minister’s Office and the electronic Document Attestation System (eDAS) for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Returning to the corporate sphere, Lakmal joined Tech One Global in 2018, eventually rising to the position of Vice President of Global Professional Services. He led global presales and delivery across multiple regions, including Singapore, the Philippines, and Sri Lanka and directed the group wide implementation of ISO 27001 standards.
Beyond his corporate responsibilities, Lakmal is a dedicated volunteer and industry thought leader. He is the Founder of the Digital Trust Alliance and the immediate Past President of the ISACA Sri Lanka Chapter. His contributions have been recognized with the 2025 ISACA Outstanding Chapter Leader award. He also serves on the councils of the Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL) and the Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS). A published author, he co-authored the “Guideline on IT Governance for Directors” and has received accolades for his research in ad-hoc routing protocols.
